Privacy policy and support for the GloomTools iOS app
GloomTools

GloomTools is a tool for playing Gloomhaven at the table. It has no accounts, no servers, and no internet features. It collects nothing about you and shows no advertising. We, the developer, never receive anything you enter.
If you start or join a party, your device shares your character and the monster board directly with the other devices at your table, over the local network. That is the only data that leaves your device, and it goes only to those devices — never to us or to any server.
Nothing. There is no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no advertising SDK in the app. The app never contacts the internet, and there is no server operated by us or anyone else for your information to reach.
The app saves its data inside its own container so it is still there next time you open it:
This is app data, not an account. It never leaves the device except as described under Party play and Backups below.
Party play is optional. The app works fully without it, and nothing is shared unless you start a party, join one, or open the Join a Party screen.
Permission. The first time you use party play, iOS asks whether GloomTools may find and connect to devices on your local network. If you decline, party play will not work and everything else will. You can change your answer at any time in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security › Local Network.
How it connects. Devices talk to each other directly, using Apple’s Multipeer Connectivity over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is no server in between. The connection between party members is encrypted.
What nearby devices can see. While you are looking for a party or are in one, your device announces itself so other players can find it. That announcement is not encrypted and can be seen by other devices nearby. It contains:
The device identifier is created by GloomTools itself. It is not your device’s name, not a hardware identifier, not an advertising identifier, and not linked to your Apple Account. It exists so party members recognise each other when they reconnect. Deleting the app deletes it.
Who can join. A new device can join a party only if the person running the monsters lets them in. Devices already in that party reconnect without asking.
What is shared with party members.
What other devices keep. Other players’ devices hold your character in memory only while the party lasts, and do not save it; it is gone when they leave the party or close the app. The monster board is the exception: every device in the party saves the current board in its own storage, replacing whatever board it had before, so the scenario survives an app restart.
When it stops. Leaving the party, or the host ending the scenario, stops all sharing and all announcements.
The only permission the app asks for is local network access, and only when you use party play.
If you have iCloud Backup or encrypted local backups turned on, iOS includes the app’s saved data in that backup, the same as it does for other apps. That is handled entirely by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy, and we have no access to it. Turning off backups for GloomTools in iOS Settings stops this.
We do not sell, rent, trade, or receive your information. The only sharing is the party play described above: directly between the devices at your table, and only when you choose to use it.
Stop sharing. Tap Leave Party on the Character tab. To stop the app using the local network at all, turn off GloomTools under Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network.
Clear the board. On the Monsters tab, open the settings sheet and choose Clear the Board.
Delete a character. Swipe a row on the Character tab and choose Delete. The character and its deck are removed immediately.
Delete everything. Delete the app from your device. iOS removes its container, and with it every character, the board, the device identifier, and all settings. We hold no copy anywhere else.
Your data lives on your device for as long as the app is installed, and is gone when you delete the app. We hold no copy and therefore retain nothing. A board you shared in a party also stays on the other party members’ devices until they clear it, end the scenario, or delete the app.
The app is not directed to children under 13. We collect no information from anyone, so we collect none from children either.
If this policy changes materially we will update the effective date above and publish the revision at this URL.
